Apr. 27th, 2008 06:48 pmI have been spending crazy amounts of time in the yard in this nice weather. It's been fun, and helped me be calm and relaxed the past couple weeks. I have no idea why being outside and getting to work in the yard helps, but somehow it does. I feel like I may actually be keeping up with the work that needs doing too, which is quite unusual. Usually by now I'm so far behind I'm letting things slip and get harder.
I got a wisteria vine and a small rhododendron yesterday, my two biggest new plants of the year. They'll be replacing the giant rose I spent so much time hacking down a few weeks ago. (When I say giant, I mean Giant. We still haven't succeeded at getting all the pieces out of the grape arbor even with three people and a ladder. We filled four-ish yard waste bags with 6in long pieces of what we did get down.)
I seem to have made my wrist sad today with more chopping, but I think it's getting better. Hopefully not a long problem. I was happy to find that the various critters only ripped up 2-3 seedlings last night. My strategy of not thinning the last ones until they're established seems to be working for now, since there's still one left on all the bits they ripped up.
