For anyone I haven't mentioned this to, there may be a skunk living under our deck. He was there at least one day, but I don't know if that's a permanent hideout or a temporary one. Any advice on how to remove or discourage him would be appreciated. And the carpenter ants had done some structural damage to the back porch, so we'll have to get it repaired. I seem to be attracting the wrong sort of wildlife this year.

In better news, I am actually succeeding at growing zucchini and tomatoes this year. Most of my tomatoes are still tiny and green, but I've had a few little ripe ones. The potted plants are doing best, not the ones in the raised beds. I'm not sure if it's lack of light or poor soil. I want to move them anyway, and hope to improve both when I do. I've just noticed that with the sun further south in the summer there may be less light where I want to put them than I hoped, I need to think further on it. The grapes appear to be doing better this year than last, and the raspberries have taken well. Two or three of the bamboo plants are stressed but the others are doing very well, and have sent up new shoots. My honeysuckle plant is growing well and may reach the top of the porch soon.

The neighbors behind me cut down the trees and brambles that were shading the back corner of the yard. This may turn out to be neat, since there will be more sun in the corner, which expands the options for what to plant there. I need some time to think about it and how much it changes my plans for that corner though.

Cherry and grape tomatoes are much easier to grown than the big ones. You don't have to go through that stage where the tomato is half-ripe for a really long time and then goes bad right before you decide to just pick it anyway.
