Oct. 26th, 2008 05:45 pmBack from Maine, where
frolain and I went to get out of the city and do some relaxing for a few days. The relaxing worked well while we were there but wore off quickly. We went canoeing on the lake, walking in the woods, and tried roasting marshmallows in the fireplace (didn't work well, I can't recommend it.) While walking we found an old car, crashed into a tree and just left for decades, then later a truck in similar condition. It was very post-apocalyptic.
Today we made orange marmalade, which turned out okay. I wanted to try making it because it's different than other jam recipes, but I'm not a huge marmalade fan, so any of you who show up and are interested are welcome to take some. Next on the jam plan: black raspberry, and raspberry-lime. I'm not sure whether to include the lime peel in the raspberry lime, though I'm leaning towards no right now.
New washing machine just arrived, and appears to be working, so we can do laundry again. Dishwasher for downstairs arrives tomorrow, but is getting stashed in the basement for a while until the contractors have time to show up and do the kitchen work. Arrangements for the kitchen are moving forward; we don't expect the work to start for another 2-3 months though, because of the contractor schedules.
