Jun. 20th, 2008 09:48 amThis morning I saw a city truck with a blowtorch on a long hose. Now I want a truck with a built in blowtorch.
Work has been crazy this week. We have 7 new people in a group of about 20, which means that in addition to all our own work, we're training new people. Training is especially hard, because I feel like I have to remain extra-calm and unstressed to them to not teach them bad habits about culture and dealing with problems. I'm specifically in charge of mentoring one of the new people, which means I have to find work for him, approve it as appropriate for a new person, and read all his emails before he sends them to give feedback on style and content. Not a low energy or easy to postpone task.
The yard is going very well. There are strawberries. So Many Strawberries. We're falling behind, so if anyone wants to stop by and eat strawberries or peapods, feel free. I need to chop down some spinach plants tonight that are crowding the zuchinni. This is a huge improvement over last year's vegetable beds. My little starts of thyme between the new rocks in the patio area are settling in fine, and I'm starting to plan the rest of the back area. I think of it as the 'winter garden' since the back is the area you can see from the kitchen, thus the area seen most often in winter.
I think we have a general plan for fixing up the downstairs kitchen. Step one is going to be finding a carpenter-type person to fix up some counters and cabinets. Does anyone have recommendations for one, or for somewhere to look for one? I've been considering joining Angie's List, is it any good?
