More on dirt
Apr. 2nd, 2006 07:31 pmThe dirt delivery people came friday morning, decided their new truck wouldn't fit in our driveway, and left without calling or talking to anyone. By 2pm, I was convinced something was wrong; we called the neighbor who was dealing and he did more dealing, which caused a different company to come saturday morning. It was frustrating, because having plans upset is annoying, and because we wound up doing all the work on saturday instead of spreading it out a bit by working for an hour or two on friday.

frolain and I about eight hours to assemble and fill the three raised beds, fill the half barrel on the front porch, and move all the remaining dirt from the neighbor's driveway to behind our house. We started in the sun and heat, took a break for lunch, and kept working through the rain. By the end I was extremely tired and convinced I never wanted to work in the yard again. The never wanting to garden again appears to have lasted less than 24 hours, since I was outside this afternoon working on the remaining pile. There's still a heaping pile left, which we'll use some of to fill the other half barrels and the raised beds as they settle a bit, but if anyone wants some extra dirt, feel free to come take as many pots worth as you'd like.
