Leaky walls

This weekend has been pretty lousy in the house sense. We figured out friday that the leaky shower, which we thought was fixed, isn't. So maybe we're looking at ripping out walls again. I guess it's good I haven't redone the grout on the shower tiles yet.

Then, this morning, [livejournal.com profile] timeslayer noticed the roof on the back porch was leaking. I've sat out there during several rainstorms, so I was pretty sure it didn't. It appears to be a line of leaking, not just a single spot, it may be an issue with the top of the roof not being properly sealed to the rest of the roof. Or just a bad area in the roof. I think someone will need to climb out on it once stuff dries out. We'll need to figure out what's wrong with that part of the roof before we can put in insulation.

Just now, I went downstairs to do laundry. And discovered a large puddle. There are at least two large areas in the basement which got very wet. It's a little hard to tell where it came from, because the dehumidifier has removed a lot of the evidence. It doesn't look like anything other than the bottom of the old bookcase that holds the laundry detergent got wet. The water might be coming in from the windows down there? Or possibly seeping from the walls? the walls appear dry now, it's just the floor that's wet. To add insult to injury, as we were looking at the second puddle [livejournal.com profile] frolain pointed out that there was a mouse sitting on top of the electrical box. I have no idea how it got there. But, it looks like the mice are back. I was hoping for more time to seal the holes and make it harder for them to get around.

I've had an excellent weekend in other senses; the housewarming friday was a lot of fun, and Gil's wedding reception, despite the rain getting there, was also great. I had thought we'd had significant rainstorms in the past, without seeing these leaks. Was there just a much greater amount of water this weekend?
